Google wants to help users avoid using compromised passwords that reduce their Internet and email security.
Password Checkup checks a user’s passwords for the web sites they visit against a database of known compromised passwords.
Although more of an experiment at this time as it isn’t fool proof, it’s a step in the right direction.
With data breaches on the rise, Google intends to help
create an unobtrusive user experience while keeping their Internet browsing
data secure.
Elie Bursztein, who leads Google’s anti-abuse team stated, “We’ve reset
something like 100 million passwords on Google accounts because of massive
breaches and other user data exposures.”
